michael v on reader's digest asia

Here we go with the second and final installation of article I extracted from the 5th edition of the Annual Humor Special of Reader’s Digest Asia originally inked by Marie Cleland.

This batch is my favorite!

6. CAFFEINE

Several studies have flagged coffee as combating or delaying the development of Parkinson’s disease in men. Also, a Japanese study found that middle aged and older people drinking coffee daily had half the rate of common liver cancer. There’s also some evidence that caffeine can enhance the performance of athletes.

But watch out!

Caffeine might be harmful to those with diabetes or hypertension, though doctors advise sufferers to drink coffee in moderation.

  1. BOOZE

Beer is rich in vitamin B6 which can prevent the build-up of homo cysteine, an amino acid, high levels of which have been linked to heart attacks. Beer also contains poly phenols which controls cholesterol. Gin and tonic on the other hand contains quinine than can prevent night cramps.

But watch out!

Booze is high in cholesterol and high intake of quinine can cause cinchonism , a cluster of symptoms including headache and abdominal pain.

  1. COMPUTER GAME

Researchers have found that kids who spend regular gaming time can improve their hand-eye coordination, their grip on Science, even their IQ.

But watch out!

Some games can create stress-like symptoms with younger people getting more affected because they are less capable to distinguish fact and fiction.

  1. SUGARY SOFT DRINKS

A research has been conducted for 8 years following individuals taking soft drinks daily. It has been found out that these people are less prone to obesity prone to obesity compared to those who take diet soft drinks. Diet soft drinks contain false sugars making the body crave for real ones which will make you consume chocolate bars.

But watch out!

Soft drinks still contains calories, so take it once a week and truly enjoy it than take a diet one daily.

  1. BEING A WORKING MUM

A study in 2005 shown women who combine career with marriage and motherhood are less likely to have poor health than those who stay home or have no children.

But watch out!

Lone working mothers were less healthy than ones with partners or childless women.

INNER PEACE

Its that good feeling when you wake up in the morning.

Its getting through the day without cursing.

Its being positive amidst stress and chaos.

Its a smile amidst annoyance

It energizes.

It gives genuine comfort.

It makes you feel strong even if you’re tired.

It makes you feel okay.

With it, the flow is spontaneous.

With it, life is not a burden.

With it, everyone looks friendly and warm.

With it, we look forward to every tomorrow.

Thank God for Inner Peace.
