Hey Sir!

Dude, Bro or mister: these are the common “pet” names that we use to call our male friends or close guy friends. It has been so shamefully used that I have grown way past fascinated with them. So more often, I will tag them as “Sir” especially those new affiliates. The weird thing about this is that every time I will use it, people will go feeling a little violated. They are telling me that they are way too inferior to be tagged as such. Some are telling me that they are too young to be called sir. Many are telling me that they are younger than me for me to call them sir (Shameful bastards, but they have a point.)

It got me wondering because if it was me, I will be flattered if someone addresses me with “Sir”. It sounds so respectful and humble. It sounds so masculine like I have more than two balls. (Hey, stop dirty dirty thoughts you perv!) Sir is actually a term used to address guys who have been anointed by the Queen, like Sir Elton John and Sir Bono of U2. See? Isn’t that such an endearing term?

Suffice to say that I’m really a hard head; I still use “sir” to address male people. I think that its just proper; and its very male universal because you don’t have to gauge the character of anyone just to determine what pet name to call them- simply call them “Sir”.
This post goes out to those people I called Sir before, up until this very moment. Ha Ha ha

Richard Gutierrez for Flawless

I have been seeing these teaser billboards of Forever Flawless around the Metro for quite some time. The message of the advertising is “Only a Real Gentleman can wear Pink”. The message is quite easy to get- they are about to launch a male celebrity endorser with the initials of RG. Richard Gomez went to my mind first knowing that he is currently into Belo Medical Group. (The mother company of Flawless) To my surprise, I recently saw this billboard in EDSA showing Richard Gutierrez as the first male endorser of Flawless. I would have to say that he has what it takes to represent the brand because he is physically pleasant plus he has a very masculine persona as perceived by the public. As for Richard Gomez; is it way past his reign? I haven’t seen him lately on TV. I guess it’s true that celebrities have this 2 month long duration of popularity; and if you’re not lucky to set a lasting mark, you’ll get back to shedding umbrella from the limelight.

Flawless is a very feminine brand. The company might have noticed the huge population of Metrosexuals ( isang metro na lang, homo sexual na.) and see it as a great market to target. Indeed, men are really getting more vain and conscious about their looks. It has also been found out by this much known Whitening cream brand that male market dominates their consumption surveys.

To look pleasant is actually a great thing but being vain is another story. I’d say its still better to look naturally good looking than artificially crafted. We wouldn’t want to intimidate women by our skin which looks more flawless than what they have right? So tame it down you little drag queen to be.

An Open Letter to a Bastard

Dear You,
After that really fierce argument we had, you know I never really cared anymore. The ordinary scene is you passing by in my existence as a hallow air or dust annoyingly scattered everywhere. That’s actually my new mantra- to keep you as a non-existent, head flying around me to which I don’t give any damn care. Good for you that some people can still manage to talk to you and check how you are doing. Lame you for not realizing that your insensitive stance brings a lot of stress to others. Let me count the ways on how you are so damn annoying. You went out of school and practically tag yourself as the hardcore bum who will wake up late, look for food, paste your face on the TV then sleep again then eat again when you wake up. Mid- afternoon you will take a bath then go outside to mingle with you’re most outrageous friends that are as good as the last season of Twilight Zone. Then you’ll go back to eat and when I say eat it’s really EAT your dinner. Then glue your face again on the TV with your foot on the channel switcher. TV volume can go up whenever you say so. Then when all is on their bed trying to get some sleep after a day’s work; you go stamping your feet all around as if the earth is shaking. You will open every light there is.

You are not contented with that, you will rave the kitchen then cook your heavy midnight snack and let the kitchen and the whole house be filled with the aroma of whatever out of this world dish it is your cooking. I am not telling you not to eat, but I hope you realize that gluttony is actually a sin. Worst of all, its so easy for you to force mom to give you money for you to keep your social life going through your filthy mobile phone that rings like hell loud.
Now, you know I can go on listing down your annoying stuff; but ill save it for the interest of keeping that little respect I still keep for you. Man, please grow up and acknowledge the fact that you are in the age where you are expected to grow some sense of responsibility. I am done caring for what you do. I have already built this huge defense that I will never grow annoyed at anything you do. For me, you’re basically insignificant, but I still hope God will still bless you.

Guess who?
It’s me! You bastard!

Oprah Winfrey Network

Finally, I get to talk about one of my most favorite Pop-culture and World-wide entertainment icon- Oprah Winfrey. She is up to slate another great thing in the face of television. Winfrey partners with Discovery Communications to produce her very OWN television network which will be tagged as what else but her very OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). The network is deemed to replace the Discovery Health Channel next year. The network promises no less than the prominent mantra of Oprah’s light and feel-good themes of programming.
OWN is a 50-50 ownership between Harpo Productions and the Discovery Communications. Oprah is still contemplating on whether she will continue her show in Oxygen Media or just transfer it to OWN. The Oprah Winfrey Show currently holds the number one slot in daytime programming of America.

It has been said that OWN will have to work on getting a consistent hold on the 70 millions households currently glued to Discovery Health. Well, I think that it will not be a hard battle to win for Oprah because we all know that if only she has the willingness to run for office; she’ll be the first black and woman president of America all at the same time! Pretty truthful right?

I am the Bad Guy

Because it was Manila day yesterday, I got to spend some quality time with my family. My sister and I with our nanay went out for lunch and some shopping. We also planned to have a massage but time is actually limited so we just decided to visit Sean and Santino in our sister’s house which is just near our place. I missed the boys even if they were just in our house 3 days ago. Who would not adore them? They are really nice kids and this early, I can tell that both of them will grow as intelligent and as adorable as myself ( pagbigyan na!)
Contrary to this thought, I remember this one time when my nanay and I went home from the grocery. We were carrying loads of items and we have to walk some distance towards our house. There was this annoying kid neighbor (who is not pleasing to the eye) who keeps on bugging my nanay telling her why she did not bought her stuffs like Kit-Kat, Toblerone and Pringles. I just ignored him thinking that maybe this is just one of the kids in the neighborhood who is friendly to my mom. When we reached our doorstep, it has been too evident that my nanay is already annoyed because she was already raising her voice.
That was my cue to stop and stare. This time the kid shifted his attention to me. He said Hi and I gave him this very painful anger of sight. He then turned to his companions ( yeah, this bastard has companions or legions must I say?) and said: Tara na nga! Ang sama ng tingin saken ng isang to eh!(Lets go this guy is looking at me so bad!)
This time, I grew so furious! No one has talked to me like this before. I immediately responded: Taran**** ka ah! Sino ka ba sa akala mo?! Lumayas ka nga dito! ( You bastard! Who do you think you are?! Go away!) That time, I can see how scared the kid was. Hes about to cry and all of his legions are quiet. He run away and his legions followed his way. I was a little guilty about the whole thing but I thought he deserved it. I was actually prepared to face his parents but the day ended and no one brought war into my face.
Now, every time I see the kid, he’ll come running into some place to hide. Did I just brought him some trauma? I think not because he still run around our neighborhood doing same thing to others. Fierce guts Id say!

It has been said over and over again since internet became too ubiquitous- Blogs now can equal the reign of traditional media. True to the sentiment; because blogs can easily put up updates on the currents events and minute by minute get go since internet has become so powerful. Not to mention the many numbers of blog hosts that can help any blabber mouths transform their words into something worthy to read.

Bagong Simula

Another milestone for the face of Philippine Television is being set by ABS-CBN as they launch the “Walang Iwanan sa Bayan ni Juan” project. This program aims to uplift the Filipino spirit and bring out fresh hopes that amidst the entire crisis, there still exists the promise of new tomorrow. With the slogan “Bigyan ng bagong simula ang ating bayan” ; a music video was made to intensify the program and gain more affiliations primarily the youth. ABS-CBN is now celebrating its 55 years of prolific television business not just here in the country, but worldwide. With the power of media in influencing opinions and sometimes, the very lifestyle and mindset; this campaign shall help the government bring out a patriotic energy to the people.

Whoah! I sounded really journalistic here, but really with no pun intended I am one with the hope for the new Philippine beginnings.

Kudos also to those fellows who are working abroad! You guys fuel the Philippine economy through your dollar remittances. This really makes me feel proud about my tatay and other family and friends in foreign lands!

Yes indeed, Mabuhay kayo!

Here now is the music video originally produced by ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation. The artists are Yeng Constantino, Kitchie Nadal, Marc Abaya of Kjwan, Kevin Roy and Yael Yuson of Sponge Cola; plus other Pinoy bands and musicians. See the superb visual artistry of this video as other ABS-CBN stars show their support for the worthy campaign

Ces Drilon-The Journalist

I wouldn’t question the credibility of those who negotiated for the release of Ces Drilon and her team. I wouldn’t insist that surely
ABS-CBN paid the ransom money. I wouldn’t insist that Ces might have been abused way beyond slaps or punch. I wouldn’t speculate on the real reason why they have been freed that easy.( Not that I want them to stay as captives) And certainly, I wouldn’t insist that the kidnappers agreed to free them in exchange for some livelihood projects and their so-called “Humanitarian” principles. I wouldn’t shed bad light to their release. But, we can’t all help but wonder how was they released? What could be the real reason?
Ces said in her interview that somehow she can see some logic to why their kidnappers do what they do. According to her, she saw how hard food and basic necessities are in that area. Not to mention, the “Jurassic” breed of insects and mosquitoes. Hygiene is basically immaterial in that kind of life. But Ces nevertheless justified the kidnappings, killings and bombings allegedly caused by these groups. Really, its never right to justify what is utterly wrong.
According to Ces, she realized to give more value to her life and people around her who suffered the ordeal of her incident. She now knows that a news story is not as valuable as life and family. I am so glad that they were freed. I am also glad that Ces had some time to realize that journalism can be really possessive of ones logic and judgment.
Ces appeared in the television full of rashes and insect bites. She even joked a bout her one toe nail that went black. She was indeed tired and really distracted. Our prayers still lie on the ex-captives’ welfare. I hope Ces will soon be back on television because I can’t wait seeing her flaunting that bandana and nice clothes again.

To God be the Glory!

Nevermind Me.

Personally, this video is quite timely. Plus, the melody is really cool. Maria Mena is just unique.
Actually, I am just short with the things I need for my supposed post today. Anyways, come and lets feel this song together.

Oh no, that sounds cheesy.

NEVERMIND ME by Maria Mena

UP Padyak!

Before anything else, I have to clear it out that I was never a student of UP. I tried taking an exam there and got in. The only glitch though is that I passed in UP Baguio, and I was a little sceptical that time thinking that I am not yet ready to live alone. Oh well, until now I still live with my mom. Now going back, we are all aware that UP Diliman is really big. The entire university can only be explored through the aid of UP ikot jeepneys. Students who have classes from buildings to buildings which are a little far from each other need to ride these jeepneys. Great news for all UP students – as an addition to the already significant celebration of the UP Centennial, UP Mountaineers and other Alumni launched the UP Padyak Project. The project aims to help students become more mobile in travelling within UP premises. The colorful bikes add up to the real sincere and happy aim of the project. The people behind the project aim to keep it private as they try to defy any sponsorship deals from outsiders. I find this idea really cool and beneficial. It makes me want to go back in college and enrol myself in UP. Well, maybe MA degree there is quite feasible. J

Kudos to all UP geniuses and creative minds! Happy 100 years guys!

Philippines got Talent?

Right after the somewhat successful duration of American Idol Season 7, Pinoy local channels are now taking the time to open up their reality search for singing stars. Pinoy Idol was the first one to hit its full duration on GMA 7. Like what I said before, the show really lived up to my expectation of being dull and bland. I was not hooked at all to the program unlike when ABC 5 was handling the show. During the time of Philippine Idol, contestants were really talented and they are really well-blessed with the talent. I believe that it is the judges that will really pave the way for this kind of show to shine. I don’t find Ogie Alcasid, Jolina Magdanagal and Wyngard Tracy a match to mantra set by Ryan Cayabyab, Pilita Corales and Francis Magalona during their time as judges in Philippine Idol. Pinoy Idol basically lacks the originality and freshness. Judges are purely criticizing the contestants and sometimes, comments can sound a little too conceited. Contestants of Pinoy Idol don’t look like stars even after some make over or something. I don’t see any talent in there that really deserves the title of being a nationwide Idol. Pinoy Idol host is a big factor for me to change channels every time he opens his mouth.

Crossing on to the other station, The Pinoy Dream Academy will open up their second season tonight. The finalists will be extracted into 14 which will enter the PDA school. I find the show very credible. Judges are very professional and subjective. There also exists the heart of the program. I am aware that the show is geared up towards building a multi media star and not just a mere singing idol that will be commercialized to sell canned music. I hope that PDA will be consistent on the current status of their program. I am looking forward to having a PDA grand winner that will surely be way up there compared to whoever will win Pinoy Idol. I also hope that Billy Crawford will do good at hosting the program, but Toni Gonzaga is there so how can you go wrong.

At the end of the day, people will look for more than just blabber mouths and pretty faces. They will search for more that just cultural relevance. Audience will look for quality and I find it unfair for some stations to undermine the intelligence of their audience.

7 Eleven Food Rampage

For a quick fix of our afternoon hunger, we at the office usually will seek for the aid of 7 eleven every snacks time. I will soon be hitting my first year at work and it has also been almost a year of loyal patronage for 7 eleven’s Big gulp and meryenda products. Not that we are heavy fans of this food store, it is actually its proximity that made us coming back- it is literary 10 big foot steps away from our building.

We can’t help but sometimes get tired of the food there so we always resort to having creative ways to make the food exciting. Creative means can lead to mixing and concocting different products to one good food ensemble. This one recipe I have presented in the photo is an original mix of Ms. Rachel. (our media director here) You just need the jumbo hotdog by 7 eleven, and then potato chips. Just do the usual spread of ketchup and special mayo and you’re good to go all the way to heavenly taste. Hm Hm, I know you’ll try this one later. Ha Ha Ha

I just realized that this is the very first ever food topic I have posted here on my blog. I actually enjoy lots of food trip, so I might do more on this topic. As for now, I would really suggest The Penne Pasta in Tomato Sauce by 7 eleven. Its really good and the best thing is its only 35 bucks. Sweet!

Liberate and Get a Job!

What a pleasant treat for every commuting Filipinos today, MRT and LRT gave away free rides on certain hours today. I was also glad to see that not so many people rode the train today. On the flip side, I was late today for work. Anyhow, it is still great to remember the heroic acts of our great brothers in the past. For them, Kudos and Mabuhay!

Now, I don’t really intend to make a good-all-independence day post today. I actually have this classified ad to show to you guys. I can’t remember the date though. So, if you are a fresh grad who is still seeking for a job, you might consider applying to this one. But, then again, I would suggest you think twice.

Strange Callers

I am a Sun Cellular user for quite some time now and after purchasing a new phone two years ago, I decided to have Globe too. I don’t know, it was the hype of unlimited texting services when I decided to purchase a Globe SIM. My college block mates are actually teasing me of being outdated with the latest happenings in our class because I am not included in their thread of messages or what they normally call as “group message” or GM. Globe users in our class occupies like 75% of the population of the entire block. Worst, they are considering my number as a “virus” in the thread. Now, what am I supposed to do? I was the class president that time and missing out on the latest happenings will surely make me look unreliable. Most of my friends that time are using Sun Cellular and of course, I don’t want to compromise my social life. I have decided to joggle two lines, and yeah waste money for text and calls by loading two lines all at the same time.

It was not much of a deal because that time I was working and studying so I really need to keep up with my friends through SMS and calls. Now, that I have this dual-SIM phone; I still keep my two lines. Both of them are still very active. I am just so annoyed with scams and SMS advertising SPAMS. With my Sun Cellular, I usually get text messages that are obviously not for me. I also receive messages of hello, Good morning up until Good evening. Sometimes, I get calls from people with weird vernacular accents asking me to be their phone pals. Gosh. Please. I am actually thinking now of acquiring a new Sun Cellular number to get rid of these unwanted “digital eavesdroppers”

Certainly, I am glad for the Unlimited services of Phone lines here in the Philippines. Having a phone in my hand really makes the world smaller and the thumb bigger. Ha Ha Ha.

Pornographic Tabloids

In a day, I always make sure that I will read/browse/doodle with the daily broadsheets to get the news for the day. I don’t have time to watch news in the evening or morning because I am busy watching TV series in DVDs and catching up on my readings. I could spend some 30 minutes to an hour reading the papers daily. Now, if I am reading papers for the news and entertainment updates, some people are patronizing the daily papers for some oblivious reasons. We are not talking about broadsheets this time. Tabloids of different shapes and sizes, color and content, news and not so worthy news, are scattered all over the metro. Tabloids in their very nature aim to sensationalize news item in the sole purpose to sell. Some tabloids are even selling different types of content in order to get “hardcore” patronizes.

We are all aware of pornographic tabloids circulating around the community. Many government moves have tried to stop these kinds of tabloids; but as they say, for as long as it sells the business will go on and flourish. Apparently, these kinds of tabloids really sell. I have witnessed vendors selling them all around. I have also seen people buying them. These tabloids are known to publish pornographic photos and bulks of writings about sex and none other less than sex.

There goes the impression that because sex is discreet in our Catholic orientation, it really sells. This is a fact that has long existed but is too irrelevant in our belief that’s why we keep mum about it. Certainly, our country will remain conservative about these issues. And this is actually a breeze knowing that legal prostitution and pornography will never exist here in the Philippines.

P P P

PPP (Papangit nang Papangit Paglaki)
People say that while kids grow they also turn a little less when it comes to looks and the cuteness somehow fades. Well, I hope Santino will not have this stage. Please Good Lord. Please. So, while they still look so adorable, we have to keep it through photos and immortalized them just in case (hope not) these good looks fade.
Sean, the eldest brother is going near that PPP stage because he loves playing under the sun. Now, we have to avoid that. Is it safe for kids to use whitening pills too? Ha Ha Ha. Yeah Im kidding.

The Click Five live in Manila!

After the long and sarcasm-filled negotiation for tickets from my super friend April, I finally juiced up 3 tickets from her for the Click Five “Modern Times, Great Minds” world tour Concert. For this, I would like to thank my Anne Curtis look-a-like friend with all smiles and cheers. (With lots of pun intended) So there I was with my two buddies hopping our way to Araneta Coliseum last Friday (May 30) to rock out with the newest Beatle band of our modern times. It’s a little queer you might say for 3 guys to watch this beautiful group of boys in a concert; but were in it for the music and not for their skinny jean and long gorgeous hair. (Oh, did I just sound queer there?) From our seats, you can clearly notice that the entrance of the concert viewers is very deliberate. We even planned to tag the concert with “see you on the Flopside”; but man, we were stunned to see Araneta filled with beaming faces. All seats were occupied as the first front act started playing. Lala is the newest Kitchie Nadal and I was really amazed by her vocal prowess. Not to mention her good looks, she has it all going with her well-written songs. It’s a great way to start the concert. It was such a thrill when she started strumming in with her acoustic of Click five’s Jenny. Next stuff, the Banda ng bayan made their way on the stage with their newest member on vocals, Jason Fernandez. Not to shed some bad light to the band, but its really quite an uncomfortable sight seeing them without Rico Blanco. (Worst is them cracking some unlawful jokes.) It was still a topnotch part when they did a medley of the past hits of Rivermaya; man, that was nostalgic. After the set of Rivermaya, a long agonizing wait came in. It was such a long sound check and we even planned to take our early exit. I was so tempted to start the boo boos but then again I thought I waited that long just to be crashed by some uniformed man outside the big dome. Then after some 30 minutes or so, the curtains are set and an Audio Visual presentation was played showing Click Five’s vignettes of their worldwide tour. It was actually a stunner because the bed music was so loud and empowering. Then the curtain vanished and the band started playing “Flipside”. It is really different seeing them perform their hits live than hearing it from canned materials. They also rocked out some hits from the Beatles and Michael Jackson. My favorites Empty, Happy birthday, Just the girl, and Jenny were performed with outmost stance and glory so I have to rate the concert with bright shining stars.

I know anyone who attended the concert will say the same thing-that they really stoned the namesake of being the “Click” five. Fierce baby! Fierce! (Click Five members are Kyle Patrick, Eric Dill, Ethan Mentzer, Joey Zehr, Joey Guese and Ben Romans.)
